What is Sherman’s Amazing Race?

Sherman’s Amazing Race is a college-wide game loosely based on the CBS Reality TV show, The Amazing Race. Teams of 3 or 4 students will race around the campus, striving to be the first team to arrive at the finish line with the fewest time penalties. Teams will trek through the campus from station to station, answering questions and performing tasks based on subjects taught here at Sherman, mixed in with a lot of fun. Some tasks will involve the whole team, and for other tasks, the team will choose a single member. The first and second place teams will win $200 and $100, respectively, to be split among team members.

Sherman’s Amazing Race Rules:

• Teams must consist of 3 or 4 students
• The stations are geared toward students in 7th quarter and above
o To encourage the participation of lower quarter students, a “Free Pass” will be given to teams with at least one 6th quarter or lower quarter student
o A “Free Pass” is a designated card that a team may turn in at any station allowing the team to skip a station
o The “Free Pass” card must be turned in at the chosen station prior to attempting the station. The Station Administrator will then take the card and place a sticker on the team’s Station Card, indicating that they have successfully completed the station
o Each team is allowed a maximum of one “Free Pass”

• Teams may not split up at any time.
• All team members must be present at all stations to enter a station

Following Bagelfest, teams will:
• Assemble with teammates at a table
• Be given bandanas, instructions, map, & Station Card
• Take a 10 question multiple-choice test with a 2 minute time limit

o Team(s) with the most correct answers (10) will leave first
o Teams with 9 correct will leave 30 seconds after the first team(s)
o Teams with 8 correct will leave 60 seconds after the first team(s), etc.

• There is no order in which to complete the stations. Teams may go to any of the 9 stations at any time.

At the Stations:
• The stations will be labeled as Station 1, Station 2, etc. and will not be identified by their name
• The stations divided into two categories
1. Group stations – all team members will participate in the station
2. Individual stations - teams will choose one team member to answer the question/perform the task at the station
• If the station is answered correctly, the team will receive a sticker on their Station Card and will proceed on to the next station
• If answered incorrectly, the team will receive a sticker on their Station card but have a strike through the sticker indicating a time penalty
o A 2.5 minute penalty will have a single line drawn through the sticker ( / )
o A 5 minute penalty will have an X drawn through the sticker
• Penalty time will be added to the team’s arrival time at the finish line
• Skipping a station without a free pass and not receiving a sticker for the station will result in a 10 minute penalty
• Any team that has skipped more than one station will be disqualified

Finish Line:
• Once a team has completed all 9 stations, they are to race to the finish line inside the atrium
• Teams will turn in their Station Card to the Finish Line Administrator who will denote the arrival time on the card
• Penalties will then be added to the arrival time to indicate the team’s final arrival time
• Once all teams have crossed the finish line and final arrival times have been tallied, the first and second place teams will be announced.
